Last night my husband and son were in New York preparing for the New York marathon today. I was having a cozy night at home with the other two kids when my mother in law called. I answered because she never calls that late in the evening. She needed a ride to a hospital 30 minutes away and didn't feel comfortable driving so far at night-could I please take her? Her husband had been having major chest pains for the past 2 weeks and couldn't take the pain anymore so they were airlifting him to another hospital to get things figured out. I said of course, call me when you are ready. I could say this without hesitation because I live in a community in which I could make any number of phone calls and know that my children will be well cared for.
I am also thankful for the medical staff who were there ready to go to give him the help he needed in such a desperate time. The staff who looked after our well being while we sat through the night waiting.
I am thankful to all the people in my community who help me every day. It does take a village and when things happen like last night it's amazing to be reminded of it!
